Introducing Dr. Kay Kelts - South Dakota Associate Medical Director

Dr. Kay Kelts completed her undergraduate education at St. Olaf College, where she met her husband, Dr. Andrew Kelts. Next, she completed her medical school training at Rocky Vista University, where she was part of their inaugural class. While in medical school, Dr. Kelts was also an inaugural pre-doctoral osteopathic principles and practices fellow specializing in osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM).

After completing medical school and fellowship, Dr. Kelts attended Family Medicine residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Upon completing her residency, she was awarded a core faculty position, practicing full-scope family medicine, including OB deliveries, inpatient services, nursing home services, and outpatient clinic. After her husband accepted a gastroenterology fellowship position, Dr. Kelts moved to Elmira, New York. While there, she practiced full-scope family medicine and served as Associate Program Director for the Family Medicine residency at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She continued in these roles — providing inpatient and outpatient services while teaching residents — until moving to Rapid City.

Dr. Kelts is very excited to settle down in her husband’s hometown. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and various health conditions. Dr. Kelts believes in treating the whole person, helping each patient achieve his or her personal goals to assist with quality of life.

In her spare time, Dr. Kelts enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, traveling, and cooking.

Welcome, Dr. Kelts, we are so happy you are part of our South Dakota team!
