The best piece of advice I've ever been given is...
Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.
What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join our team of superstars?
Do it, even if it scares you. The people you surround yourself with will make such a difference in your life. The patients and families will touch you and leave a huge impact on your heart.
If I weren't so dang good at my job, I'd probably be... *
Retired. 😁 I'm still wondering what I want to do for my 4th career.
Cats or dogs? Do you have any?
Just cats and dogs? HAHA, here's the list:
one 15-year-old tortoiseshell cat who thinks she runs the place
3 cockatiels
two ½ great Pyrenees, ½ Newfoundland LGD dogs who protect the critters
one Aussie who loves to herd everything but the cows
18 Scottish Highlands, two ½ black angus, ½ wagyu, one ¼ black angus, ¼ wagyu, ½ highland and another due to hit the ground any day (anybody need to come pet a fluffy cow?)
25 dorper sheep (anybody need to take one or two or three home?)
3 hogs and more bacon bits to make their appearance at a future date
too many free-range chickens to count, who keep us, our family, and friends in copious amounts of eggs
ducks, geese and guinea hens
I think that's it.
My favorite word in the English language is...
Hearing the word 'Grammy' come from my grandkids' mouths makes my heart melt, so that has to be it!
What's the most inspiring part of your job?
To truly see the impact we have on our patients and their families’ lives.
The most important thing I learned as a child was...
To tell the truth, trust God and love my family.
If I were a superhero, my superpower would be...
Flight, to get there faster.
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I'd be a ________ when I grew up.
Wife and mommy.
What else would you like us to know?
My husband of 42 yrs and I live off-grid and work harder at home than any other job we could ever have, but love it!
I was always an ER nurse during my nursing career. That's all I wanted to be; no other nursing specialty even interested me. My dad spent the last four months of his life in hospice, and seeing what hospice did for him and my mom made me think about changing specialties when I was ready to walk away from the ER. That day came, and I just did it. I have learned so much and have met some of the most amazing people; most days, I'm glad I did the 180* and just jumped in. When people ask me why I'm a hospice nurse, isn't that hard? I say, yup, it is, and it's my dad's fault.
Thanks, Robbin!
